both sides of the bars

I ticked something off my bucket list on Wednesday when, with good freinds, I made a visit to Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin. Because of its significance in the hostory of 1916 it is Dublin's most visited site this year.
There's a certain discomfort in walking along cold pathways where bare feet were marched to an ignominious death. Or staring through the bars and peep holes through which one man's freedom was drained away then to fertilise seeds of freedom for a nation.
It's a strangely moving kind of place.
