Der Weltschmerz

Weltschmerz is one of those very, very German words that don't have an exact translation into English.  Broken down, it is a compound Noun from "die Welt" (the world) and "der Schmerz" (the pain).

Worldweariness is perhaps the closest English equivalent, but I found a quote from an American author (Em L. Smith) that describes it as "...basically, ... the depression we feel when bamboozlers, fanatics, manipulators, trolls, bigots, demagogues, fear-mongers, liars and prigs threaten to take over the world, and there’s nothing, we think, we can do about it.”

We attempted to shake this feeling by walking through lots of leaves and looking for the beauty in nature (you don't have to look very hard sometimes).

I will take solace in that

And the cricket.  India look poised to win but that doesn't matter, it's about the Game.
