How much is that doggie

in the window ?
This of course, isn't a real dog.....  and I wouldn't suggest you bought a dog in this way.
For those of you born in the 1950's, it was a familiar song. According to Wikipedia, it was written by Bob Merrill in 1952,  and recorded by Patti Page.  It was released 1953 under the title The Doggie in the Window in the USA, but it was the version by Lita Roza that was popular in the UK {I like this version best} reaching no 1 in March 1953. Patti Page's version was then re-released, having been renamed "How much is that doggie in the window" on the Oriole label in the UK but wasn't so popular. At one point in 1953, there were two versions of the same song in the charts.

In 2009, Patti Page recorded a version with a new title "Do you see that doggie in the Shelter", with new lyrics emphasising the adoption of homeless animals from shelters.  The rights were given exclusively to the Humane Society of the United States.

Apparently, Maggie Thatcher said that Lita Roza's version was her favourite song of all time in the 1980's.... Roza left £190,000 to dog-related charities in her will.
