Sunday: Windows

The answer is ‘nothing much’
most of the time
but when I see windows
I often wonder what highs and lows
are taking place behind them.

A TV is bound to be on
and surely someone
will be having a
Sunday afternoon sofa snooze.

Probably a primary school teacher
is getting her lesson planning done
in preparation for the week ahead
and, after Saturday night’s awesome party,
maybe a teenager with a sore head
is still in bed.

Washing is drying in front of a gas fire
or is draped over radiators.
The air smells of wet clothes.

Sunday: windows - all is calm;
not a single face appears
at any of them.
