On guard

I should have known better, I suppose, but I popped over to Elford this morning hoping to use their boathouse hide.  I knew the river would be high after all the rain yesterday but I didn't expect to see the boathouse completely swamped.  The water level was right up to the viewing window so I would have been immersed up to my shoulders had I taken up my usual position sitting on the bench.  The river water was even above the level of the pond and the kingfisher perch was almost submerged.  From above I could see that the birds were still using the feeders but I doubt if anyone will wade over to refill them when they run out.  At least my faithful robin was about when I got back home.
