Criffel

We were told that Doug Scott was doing a talk at Moffat Town Hall in the evening, so decided to combine it with a hillwalk as well. It was bright in Edinburgh, but sunny by the time we reached Moffat and the hills looked great with some snow on the higher slopes. We decided to walk up Croft Head, a Marilyn, Loch Fell a Donald and finally Capel Fell, also a Marilyn. The hills are reasonably easy underfoot, but a little steep in places so progress was good. It was cold, but almost windless, so much of the time up Croft Head we just walked in our base layer. On top we had lunch and enjoyed the view from the Lake District in the south to the nearer hills in the other directions. It was odd to think that storm Angus was battering the south coast when we had views like this of Criffel with patches of mist rising gently. The extra is from Capel Fell looking back towards Croft Head as the sun set. A great day out and an excellent talk followed.
