Autumn blues

I've been delighted by the wonderful autumn colours at the nature reserve today, after my return from late spring in New Zealand a couple of days ago. However, I was unprepared for this amazing deep blue among the yellows, oranges and browns of recently fallen leaves. It is the relatively uncommon resupinate fungus Terana caerulea, or Cobalt Crust, on dead ash branches. It is a new record for the reserve and, I think, for the whole 10km grid square. A nice welcome back!
