Helvellyn Ridge

A great day for blipping in the Lakes today!  We drove over for a few hours so that Tony could check the map of an area he is planning some orienteering training on.  The permissions officer had told him that part of the forest had been felled so it was essential to check it was okay for youngsters (and that the control sites were still there!)  We parked up above Esthwaite (smashing reflections) and found the footpath uphill to the area and, yes, it was seriously felled.  I found vantage points from which to blip the view whilst Tony checked out his map and made some decisions before the training next weekend.

Back down from the hill we drove to Hawkshead for a cuppa and toasted teacakes in the 15th Century Minstrel's Gallery tearoom.  The guy was telling us that they had an early knock on the door recently and when they opened up, two Special Branch guys were standing there asking if Prince Charles could have a look at the building.  Apparently he stayed for an hour and had chocolate cake.  I don't know if he paid for it though!

On the road again and we had a treat and took the ferry across Windermere which is where I took my blip of the Helvellyn Ridge dusted with snow!

Happy Thanksgiving to all our American blippals!
