Waiting for a 48

A day in Funchal and as the Monte Botanical Gardens were at the top of a hill so we took a bus. It shouldn't have surprised us, but it was full of middle aged UK tourists with English accents and only a few token locals. The gardens were moderately interesting and contained more than just plants. The paths were lined with tiled panels which detailed interesting episodes in Portuguese history - if you cared to look at them. To keep our daily mileage up, some of us agreed to walk back to the town whilst most took the cablecar. After the dithering that is necessary when you are dealing with eight independent minds, we opted for diner in a small cafe which seemed to be mainly inhabited by locals and we paid a quarter of our usual amount for similar food and drink. Yes, Espada again Kath.
