Fitting Ending

Today we had arranged to pick up our friends Dave and Debbie and go out for lunch.  The landing cafe at Lake Tarawera was the choice of venue.  After a delicious lunch Debbie looks across at the lake view and asks is that a waka coming into view?  There is an eerie aspect to seeing a waka on Lake Tarawera because the story is told of a phantom war canoe appearing silently on the lake prior to the eruption of Mt Tarawera on June 10th 1886.
It was pouring with rain as the waka approached and I could stand under the shelter of the cafe to take pictures.  Once it was at the beach the sun came out.  It turned out to be a group of high school students having a waka experience with Aotearoawaka.co.nz.  They were wet but cheerful when they reached the beach.
For me it was the perfect way to end my Rotorua blips.  The Maori culture is very strong in the city and surrounds.and has featured in my blips.
