Modern belts are a flimsy bunch, compared to then ten-or-more-years-old item this is supposed to be trying to replace. Whilst this can hold up a pair of shorts it's yet to be tested holding up a pair of shorts whilst being cycled in daily or supporting the weight of a small child, who tend to not so much hang onto my shoulders as stand with their toes tucked into my belt, which may have accounted for the relatively recent increase in frailty of the old belt.
