1,000 Bikes!

I am in Portland for a conference at the Oregon Convention Center. The MAX Light Rail line runs alongside the convention center. I saw this Biketown Bike Rental Rack across from the MAX stop. Yesterday driving through town I saw a couple of people riding together on these bright orange bikes.

The program began last July. Working with Nike, an Oregon-based company, the city purchased 1,000 bikes. A person can rent a bike at one of 100 bike racks spread over 8 miles.
