A View From Calton Hill

We strolled to the top of Calton Hill, just up the road from our hotel, after breakfast this morning for this classic view of Edinburgh.

In fact there are great views all around but it was much cloudier today so no sunshine on Leith today.

In the foreground is the mausoleum of the philosopher David Hume, who was instrumental in persuading the civic authorities in opening the hill up for the recreation of the populace. It also is home to the original Observatory, the Nelson monument and the Acropolis as well as having been an execution site.

We walked down to have a look at the Parliament building (interesting design!) and Holyrood Palace, then back up Royal Mile for a spot of lunch before heading back to the airport.

Back home now!
