Hi Tec – Low Tec

The other day a neighbour (who is also a weather enthusiast) alerted us to that we had only recorded a  couple of millimetres of rain when everyone else in the area had recorded a couple of inches.  Investigation found a fluke ‘end of leaf stem’ had slipped through the hole in the funnel and was directing most of the rainfall away from the measuring bucket – all quickly rectified.

So we decided to get our own (cheap) stand alone rain gauge so that we can keep an eye on the ‘Davis Vantage Pro2’ rain gauge, just in case it happens again.  I just can’t see us checking them every day . . .
