St Peter's Church, Stoke Fleming

After heavy rain and fog all yesterday, it was back to bright sunshine today. It was also back to St Peter's Church, Stoke Fleming, to see the complete array of decorated trees in the 10th year of their annual Christmas Tree Festival. Beautiful as all the trees were, my main blip is of the lovely shadows cast by the low afternoon sun through the stained glass windows.

I was there on Thursday helping to set up our 'Olympics' themed tree, sponsored by the village table tennis club. My favourite tree today I've photographed as my Extra. It was sponsored by a village business '4 Paws Walking' and every decoration was hand-knitted. (The plastic duck was the oddity for visitors to try and spot. Out of over two dozen trees we couldn't spot them all, but it was fun trying.) Local clubs, businesses, school and other organisations keep coming up with lovely, creative ideas each year, and although visiting is free, donations this year will be split between the church and the local hospice.

There was also a "prayer tree" where you could write and hang your own messages. Not sure what the precise intention was, but people seemed to have used it to write the names of lost loved ones who were in their thoughts. Didn't read many as I started welling up, so moved on quickly.
