24 Doors of Advent (13)

'Lady Haig's Poppy Factory'
After a rush managed to make my visit to the above. The tours had finished but spoke to the chap in charge of the factory and he was most helpful. He took me on my own guided tour of the factory starting in the boardroom (main). In the top blip at the far end is the portrait of Lt/Col John McCrae who wrote ' In Flanders Field' the famous First World war poem.
The bottom blip has Lord Haig's portrait on the far wall & Lady Haig to the left.
The makes five million remembrance poppies in Edinburgh each year and
nearly all the people working there are ex-service personnel. The guys who I met were a happy bunch & now looking forward to their Christmas break.
If your ever in Edinburgh check it out they have tours most of the year.
extra blips:
The ancient press used for forming the poppies.
A collection of lead soldiers depicting the 'Trooping of the Colour' this is a very valuable collection as the valued at £200 each !
A collection of the wreaths that the factory have made in the past.
It was a very moving visit so check out the website please.
