Could-have-been-more-mellow yellow

It would be pointless to show a tuk-tuk or moto driver a written address as knowledge of the city's layout does not correlate to anything on paper, and ability to read English or Khmer script varies hugely. You have to know yourself where you're going, and direct the driver without losing attention.

Often drivers are men from the provinces who don't know the city well at all, but come in for chunks of time, sleep on the street in their tuk-tuks and return to their families when they've saved some money.

This is down near the the Royal Palace where I was trying to find the UNESCO office but stopped the driver in the wrong place - by the Ministry of 'Cult' (they mean Culture....) and Religion - and had to scout around in the midday sun. Most things in this area are yellow including many old colonial-looking buildings in various states of repair, the bricks underfoot, the stupas and spires, and walls. I was forced to call the UNESCO office.

'Can you help me find the correct building? I'm late for a meeting there'

'Can you see yellow building?'

'They're all yellow bong'
