The Saltaire Living Advent Calendar

The Living Advent Calendar has been a feature of the World Heritage village of Saltaire in West Yorkshire  England since 2006, with one new window “opened” each evening of December; all remain lit until 5th January.  All are individually designed by Saltaire residents for the windows of their houses.  Taped to a door in the front hall of my condo.

A bit esoteric for Seattle?  Leave it to Blip and a phenomenal blipper friend Wendles56 who lives in West Yorkshire, England,  and has sent me all of these window cards (with notes) from 2015 (actually there is a spot for the 12th which I fear is lost in the mail) as well as postcards of other windows and their creators.   This is a place I’d love to visit—it’s David Hockney territory- he’s from nearby Bradford - his paintings are in the Saltaire Mill.  (You know he’s my inspiration to do iPad drawings.)   Wendy is an ex teacher and can’t resist a bit of education with many many postcards from the area..... It’s unbelievable.:-) !   So.. we’re hoping to go visit there in 2017..very exciting to plan —more about that later.  It would be so fun to blip from there….
Thank you Wendy!

All could want to know about Saltaire Mill..

Edit; 2 blippers below ( Jeanneb and Yorkshirebred) have coincidental blips on this same day of the REAL windows .. you could learn more!!

Just a quick report about the  condo dinner last night,  as I have been known to complain about condo living..:-)    Well it's actually a fairly diverse and interesting group.  From Victoria who at almost 96,  (living with alzheimers) leans over at the dinner table to tell me "I used to have a brain" ---  her younger husband is her patient caregiver.  To the other 60+yo  widower  who has recently married a very young gal from the Philippines who has a 2 year old!  (she is lovely, feeds them rice and fish twice every day, and says it's much too cold to take the youngster outside.)  The paella was fabulous!!!
Thanks for the nice comments on my digital Christmas card! (better than none at all, I hope)
