Australian Painted Lady

Knowing nothing about butterflies whatsoever, I tried researching this beautiful speciman on line and find that, although "Painted Lady" butterflies are found in various parts of the world our beauty is just different enough to warrant its own classification.  I have no idea what the differences are, but maybe some of you who specialize in this area can tell us.
I find it quite beautiful, having such rich autumnal tones and pretty lacy edges to its wings. Another pleasant surprise in our backyard in  Ballarat.
