Charles Stewart Parnell

Charles Stewart Parnell was an Irish landlord, nationalist political leader, land reform agitator, and the founder and leader of the Irish Parliamentary Party.
Born: June 27, 1846, County Wicklow
Died: October 6, 1891, Brighton

Known in his day as the Uncrowned King of Ireland he was the single most popular politician in Ireland in the 19th Century. A man who might just have been able to achieve for the Irish people the freedom they craved for the previous 500 years. Unfortunately his dalliance with a woman to whom he was not married, proved to be his downfall and Ireland's loss. And yet, over 100 years after his death, he is remembered and commemorated all over the country. This statur stands proudly in Parnrll Park in the village of Rathdrum.

Apologies if I have to miss out on commenting this evening. I am off now to see if I can help a friend to colour balance his new monitor. It could take a while. The monitoe is actually a 42 inch (107 cm) TV screen!
