inari...

... a pocket rocket  of deliciousness.

Named for the Shinto deity of fertility, rice, agriculture and foxes  this was apparently his favourite food and easy to see why.
Sushi rice stuffed into an abuurage (deep fried tofu) bag and topped with (in this instance) seaweed sprinkled with sesame seeds and a twist of pickled ginger.

Other toppings include shredded egg omelette, salmon eggs (ikura), nori, or just the 'plain old' stuffing of sushi rice seasoned with shitaki mushrooms, pickled ginger slivers and pickled plums.

Any which way...a  lovely lunch after a morning of 'four days to Christmas' last minute shopping.
