The Hungry Gap

The hungry gap is traditionally June. Well, this year it has stretched on into late August! When you're bemoaning the high price of veg and fruit this year, remind yourself it has been a terrible year for growing. This morning was constant heavy showers, and the afternoon looked like it wouldn't be much better! I went over to the allotment to see if the 'indoor' stuff needed watering- ah, the irony. After sheltering in the car a few times from deluges, the sun finally came out. I did some weeding, picked the handful of beans that were finally ready and went on a wander round other folks' allotments with my camera. This plot has a huge and beautiful bed of Heleniums. Hard to capture as the wind was still blowing them about.
