Free the Tree

The Christmas Tree in Shawlands, situated between Langside Halls and The Shed has been attracting quite a lot of media attention. The fifteen foot tree is caged in by very high railings. These unsightly barriers are seemingly for safety reasons, as the lights are run off mains electrics.

So the locals decided to decorate the railings and start the 'Free the Tree' campaign. I just had to go along and check the progress. I know some young friends were there yesterday adding their own touches.

And I wonder if the barriers and Tree will still be standing on Christmas Day after Storm Barbara has rushed through and caused havoc? Will the Tree make an escape?

And why is the tree here anyway? It has always been at Shawlands Cross?
