tempus fugit

Animals in garments

I went to Cardigan and saw
a rabbit in a jacket and
 an otter in a sweater.

(It was only me that was wearing a cardigan)

I bought a little booklet called Cenarth Falls Past and Present about a nearby village on the River Teifi famous for its salmon fishing, legal and illegal. In it is quoted a reminiscence about a local man who fished with his pet otter in the 1870s. It reminded me that otter-fishing has been recorded in many parts of the world from ancient times and is still practised in Bangladesh today, as seen in a short video clip here, similar to cormorant fishing in China and Japan. How the practise arose in the Cardigan area is anyone's guess.
