Tuel Lane Lock, Rochdale Canal, Sowerby Bridge

A wander down through the town brought me past the lock from over the bridge. A little rain would have brought out the cobbles more, but the black and white image brings out the context of the scene. The darkness emphasises the void emptiness of the lock at the front. It's hard to see just how deep this lock is, taking the canal underneath the road bridge from where the picture is taken. I like the dark horizontal lines of the walkways and the fencing which lead the eye back towards the canal to the rear of the image.
