Days are getting longer, roads are being improved, Christmas holiday has started for me. The song is said to be inspired by Jimmie Nicol, who acted as the stand-in drummer for the Beatles European and Australian tour in 1964 as Ringo was hospitalized due to tonsillitis. He said every morning "it's getting better" to the other Beatles referring to his drumming at the shows.
