Tartan, design and dementia

Visited a challenging and thought-provoking exhibition on dementia this afternoon in The Smith museum, Stirling.

Now this is a subject we all shy away from, fearing that the very mention of it will hasten its emergence.  But there cannot be a family in the land who has not had at least one relative affected by it, or knows of someone suffering from it.

This exhibition is the result of the Disruptive Dementia project, organised by Alzheimer Scotland .   They ran a series of tartan workshops throughout the country  aimed at showing how therapeutic activities like this can help give a sense of identity to sufferers and increase their self esteem.
The result is tangible legacy of original tartans designed by people all too often written off by society.
