The Saint of Portobello, Part Two

It's been a while since I blipped our local Saint -

A month or so back there was a notice on a local FB page that David's bike had been stolen and asked if anyone had seen it. I thought it would never be seen again and that it would be horrible if David didn't ride anymore (he's now over 90) so I suggested a whip round to buy a new bike. Things then went into hyperdrive with others pledging money, a local shop owner offered to collect the money, a local bike shop offered to replace the bike at a discount...you get the picture.

Then David's bike was found in the Figgate Burn! It had been spray painted black and was worse for wear but it had been found. David then learned of the community generosity and offer to buy a new bike but David just wanted his bike back. He was very grateful for the generosity but didn't want to bother anyone (just as a Saint would do). The local bike shop gave it an over haul and someone else donated panniers. So here we are, a few weeks later and David is back cycling, back to his activism and this whole episode makes me smile.
