Den Lille Havfrue :: The Little Mermaid

The little mermaid of Copenhagen was commissioned by Carl Jacobsen in 1909 and put in place in 1939. Modelled on the wife of the artist who created her, the mermaid looks out into the distance as though she is awaiting the return of her mermaid (or mermen) friends.

I walked for about an hour to see this sculpture and although I was glad to go to, arguably, Denmark's most famous attraction, I did think to myself... "is this it?". It is a surprisingly small landmark considering how well known it/she is.

Going on the train to Sweden tomorrow, to Malmo and Lundi. Hopefully their Starbucks will have mugs in stock, unlike Copenhagen :(
