Eye See You

I tried snowshoes this afternoon. They're kinda trudgy compared to skis, but it was nice to be out in the snow on a beautiful sparkly day. At the near end of the meadow we came across a family clearing the snow off a frozen lake so that they could set up a hockey game. Reminded me of being a kid back east--someone would shovel off part of the pond for us, but the ice was very rough compared to the smooth surface these folks had achieved. I can remember clattering over the bumps that the wind had made when there was a slight melt. Even then I preferred skiing, but ice skating was something we could do easily after school, whereas skiing was further away and was always with my parents and their friends.
