From Hell, Hull and Halifax....

...may the Lord God deliver us.
These words form part of a 'Thieves Litany' - Hell was to be feared, and so was the evil Hull Gaol - but the Halifax reference was to its notorious Gibbet - or Guillotine - and the quick way the authorities were to use it against wrongdoers.
This - non-working - replica was erected in 1974 - it has been estimated that over 100 criminals were beheaded in Halifax over the years.
