Orange Peel

A relief that things are back to normal today. A striking contrast with yesterday though - it was really dull, and with a biting cold wind. After my exercise class this morning, I decided a good use of the rest of the day would be to recce for the Fungus Group's Winter Wander. This annual event, takes place in a park with a cafe. We have a little bit of a wander looking for fungi, then return to the cafe for some lunch and to plan next year's programme. Last year we found 30 species, which surprised me for an semi-urban habitat in December, but in a very short time today, I found a dozen or so, including a huge patch of Orange Peel Fungus (Aleuria aurantia). With a few companions and a bit of searching, hopefully we'll be able to equal or exceed that number. All we need now is a bit of decent weather.
