An Atmospheric River

We were awakened this morning at 5am by flood warnings on our phones. The much advertised 'atmospheric river' arrived during the night accompanied by gusty winds. We had to coax Ozzie out of the house and got as far as the creek across the street which is in no danger of flooding but is running very high and very fast.

I suspect that the reason Santa Rosa Creek isn't flooding is because it empties directly into Spring Lake which is flooded. Dana just sent me a picture taken by one of Peter's friends, Rowan Schneider, looking down on the snack bar and the place where I usually park my car.

Whenever there is a big rainstorm like this, there are endless warnings not to drive through standing water, and every time there is a rainstorm like this, people drive through standing water, get stuck and have to be rescued. Why oh why did we have to be awakened from a sound sleep to be told this?
