Gimme Shelter!

Junco, finch and Towhee shelter in a protected spot not far from the bird feeders. Last night the region experienced massive snowfalls that were part of thundersnow, a kind of weather I didn't know existed!

Schools and businesses across much of the state were closed due to snowfall in the double digits, and the governor of Oregon declared a state of emergency! The college will also be closed tomorrow; for an unprecedented 4 days in a row.

Jeff spent much of the day plowing and digging out from heavy snow and drifts blown in during the night. In one extra, Jeff assesses how far he can push snow without going over the edge, as he stands next to a 10 foot high drift. I helped him knock down snow at road edges, so that when he plowed, the new snow had some place to go!

In one extra, the greenhouse, back garden and woodshed are buried in snow.

Bitter, clear weather is moving in...at least it will provide a few days respite from shoveling!
