Her Hands

Dr. M. Louise Cason is a very dear friend of mine. We got to know each other 25 years or so ago back when we both lived in Miami. We had a few things in common...our love of dogs (she traveled the Obedience Trials circuit with her Dalmatians), plants (she and her partner grew amazing orchids) and children ( she was one of the very first female Pediatricians in South Florida). Casey, as I was long ago given permission to call her, is now approaching her 94th year. She says that she "has good days and not so good days" and thoroughly enjoys having Tara and I visit her each week. So these are Casey's hands. Hands that have taken such excellent care of so many children. They have helped heal the rich kids and those who were much less well off. She still speaks with pride about welcoming all children into her office in Coconut Grove at a time when persons of color were typically seen by a physician in 'separate' facilities from whites. Dr. Cason is held in very high esteem by both her peers in the Medical Community and by her many friends. I have often thought about photographing her hands...so...these are Casey's hands.

There's Magic in Everything...if you look closely enough!
