Quarryhill

Rick and I are doing a Mexican meal...well, Rick is making roasted pepper tacos, carnitas enchiladas, Spanish rice and I am making an orange almond cake, which is actually Mediterranean and a bean salad.

In the midst of the preparations Meg and I took advantage of the sunny weather to take a walk in Quarryhill Botanical Gardens which specializes in plants and trees from Asia. It was once a working quarry but this pool and some rocky walls are all that remain of it.

It isn't the optimal time of year for any botanical garden and this one is mostly dormant, but it is still a quiet refuge for an afternoon walk, and the waterfalls between pools are particularly full after all the recent rain.

We found one magnolia tree which was just budding (see extra), a harbinger of the flowering bounty to come in a couple of months.

I will be catching up on comments when the fiesta is over....
