So, Then

Our new fitter, R, arrived (early!) and as I said yesterday, he was right on the nail. Really nice, considered guy. Took one look in the shower room and said that he reckoned there was something wrong with the floor. That’s what we’d been saying all along, but Bathstore assured us "we needn't worry".

The first team (right back at the beginning, just over a year ago) had – as you can see – put the tray straight onto boards which needed replacing. No marine ply. No scree, which was needed for the stone tray we’d specified

Rather than bedding the tray properly on a layer of appropriate material (there are several acceptable options), they just spotted adhesive randomly and plonked the tray down – as you can see from the marks on the old boards.

The second team didn’t lift the tray, even though they were doing a “complete” refit. Doggone if we or R know why...

So now, R has a clear plan and outlined it carefully and logically for us. Replace the floor boards, fresh marine ply foundation, a proper scree and then bed the tray on a layer of cement-based adhesive.

Such a breath of fresh air compared with the last sets of numpty-chumps...
