Tiny Sticky (Stick Insect) TT86

This plant seems very attractive to stick insects. They can get quite long, but at the moment they are only about 1cm. I find them very hard to see, D can find them easily! They are green, brown or red ish, and very like the twigs they rest on. They sway themselves in the breeze looking very twig like.

One interesting fact about stick insects is the females can reproduce without the males, a feature called parthenogenesis.

Little is known about many of them - there are 23 known species in New Zealand but it is suspected there may be more.
