paisley abbey from the west

After sacking by the English in 1307 plus a collapse of the tower in 1553 the walled off Nave served as the parish kirk for several centuries. Tower and Choir(east end) were restored by the Victorians notably R. Rowand Anderson and Robert Lorimer.  The pictured west front and the great dark aisled mainly 15thC Gothic Nave have  fragments of the original early 13th century church especially notable this Norman doorway and adjacent arches.
Truly a wonderful jewel in the historic centre of this fine town
