Looking Up

Several years ago I went to a a course on the history of buildings in Newcastle and one of the things the teacher said was don't just look at a building from a street level view as often this level has been changed.  She said to always look up as this gives more clues to its history.

Today I was walking along Gallowgate in Newcastle and happened to look up and saw these art deco figures on a buildings facade.  I've looked into since I got home and it appears that the building (then called Magnet House) was built in the 1930's for the General Electric Company.  The panels symbolise power generation and are similar to ones found in the interior of Battersea Power Station.

The building is now used for student accommodation.
