Crazy About Birds

Ruby

Lazy again - a photo, taken with my phone this morning at The Wildlife Center and fartnarkled with the app called "Paper Artist." This is Ruby. She's a Red-tailed Hawk and one of the Center's Education Ambassadors. She was having her annual check-up. In this photo she was being weighed by Raina who is the person in the Outreach Department who most often handles her. She wasn't pleased about her check-up, but she got through it without major incident.

Here's Ruby's story from The Wildlife Center's website:

Ruby was hit by a car in Dayton, Virginia in February 2010.  When she arrived at the Center, the veterinary team found a fracture in her left wing as well as severe trauma to her right eye.  After weeks of cage rest and bandaging, her wing healed – but her right eye had to be surgically removed.  Unfortunately, with limited vision, Ruby cannot see well enough to be released back into the wild.
