A Gift

In the UK, in January,
you can’t take this for granted,
so if I’d asked them
what they wanted,
as a family, on a free day,
when no one had to work
or go to school, I
think they might have asked
for a clear blue sky
and a bridge to walk over
so that they could arrive
at where they’d like to be,
and see the sea
and breathe in clear cold air
as one, as a family,
and add another great day
to their collective memory.

So here it is,
no less and no more
than they could wish for.
Not that it’s mine to give.
