020 — Not a Flower

Today's assignment from the book "Vision 365: Mastering the Everyday Practice of Seeing": illustrate a haiku.

Slender , so slender its stalk bends under dew — little yellow flower. —Matsuo Bashō

This was a difficult one, I'm don't think this image completely meets this assignment but given the time of year I struggled for availability of light, time, and yellow delicate flowers. I thought for awhile if the works together had any other meaning to me that I could illustrate but I was unable to draw any inspiration.

While at home preparing for an evening of board games with Melinda and a friend I grabbed up the cactus from the living room. I believe I have read somewhere certain types of cacti (though I not this one I think) can produce yellow flowers. With this in mind I flicked some water at it and shot using a macro lens and tabletop tripod. Processed on the iPad in vsco. Thanks for looking.
