Road Trip - Day 11

Holbrook
On our way back to Sydney. We are taking two days to drive the route. On our way we stopped off at a small town called Holbrook. It has an interesting history.

Originally it was called Ten Mile Creek and the first buildings erected in 1836. A German immigrant became publican of the Woolpack Hotel in 1840 and by 1858 it had become known as Germanton. During World War One the name was deemed unpatriotic and so it was renamed Hollbrook in honour of Norman Holbrook, a decorated wartime submarine captain. To honour him they acquired a decommissioned submarine from the Australian Navy and erected it in the town.
