Having a good shake

A morning run to the steps down to Southend of Snells Beach, and after wading across the mudflats for some minutes, where I saw seven Tituriwhatu (NZ Dotterel) plus a moderate number of kuaka (godwits), I ran around the point and along our beach to the southern end. I then went back the way I had come.

The kuaka were very intent on their feeding in preparation for the long flight north in six to eight weeks. Even so, they kept their distance away from me. So this photo of one which extended its wings and flapped them, ruffling many others of its feathers, has been enlarged considerably.
