End of Thaw Season

The snow is gone and today brought sunshine and 50ºF (7ºC)... unheard of in January! This side garden blip was secretly visited by a lurking Gracie T-t. As you can see this red/scarlet oak keeps its leaves until spring. A Blue Sky day and rare indeed...
All will change when the ice pellets start in a few hours and then by Tuesday the snow will return.
Under an overturned pot I found and killed two slugs today... now that is a real spring season opener! Can't begin too early on slug control.

I had a long phone call with a friend who lives in Seattle. She walked all 3.5 miles of the Parade and loved the silence, the creative signs and solidarity with 100,000 others-- women, girls, men, babies in pink hats (a few men in pink tutus), some gorgeous large dogs wearing signs. No violence just peacefulness and promises to do this again regularly.
Gives us a sense of hope!
