Special Gift

One day as I drove  my now 42 year-old son to first grade when he was 6, he asked me if he could have one dollar for a project at school.  The dollar I gave him went with the $9 he had saved to buy the painting above for me as a Christmas gift.  The school's art teacher did this painting on a piece of linoleum that looks like bathroom tile on the back.  I have treasured this gift for many years, partially because I like the painting, partially because I was proud my son knew I would like a gift of art, and mostly because he found a way to do what he thought his Dad would enjoy.
