Half the coat of arms

We didn't see the other half - the kangaroos don't usually emerge until dusk.

But how exciting was this.  A young emu just casually walking towards us, not too distressed at all, but sidled past pretty quickly when it got up to us.

As an aside, I was looking at the Australian coat of arms today, and I was charmed to see that only Western Australia and South Australia have indigenous creatures for their State Badge.  We have the Piping Shrike (which isn't a shrike, nor does it pipe, it's a magpie, which isn't really a magpie, but that gets a bit complicated), and Western Australia has the black swan - which really is a swan.

Tasmania has a walking red lion, Victoria has a blue Maltese Cross and crown, NSW has the Southern Cross constellation (at least that's southern hemisphere) and an Imperial Crown, and Queensland has the Cross of St. George and 4 stars.

The Rower got some lovely images of our other icon, the Koala.

So there you go.
