Desert Squirrel

Grey duck

Probably a hybrid with mallard, but maybe not.  It was swimming  in a pool just below the  Riwaka Resurgence.

Actually these pics were taken today (26), but my back blip for 24 Jan ended up being posted as today, and it seems very hard to change.  I miss the days when Blip picked up the date from the metadata, and I didn't make so many mistakes!

The white fronted tern was along the Motueka Spit, earlier in the day.  The light was dreadful, and there seemed to be a smoky haze as well, so not the best for photography, but an enjoyable walk anyway.  We saw lots of birds; the spit is a great place for diversity.  The dotterel chicks are always fun to watch as they dart about on the sand.
