Pier without a Peer

Tynemouth Pier on a Bank Holiday Monday

So, where is everyone??

This is an English August bank holiday. People should be at the seaside in their thousands. One might have to factor in the typical (new) British weather however; rainy, cloudy, dark albeit rather warm with a very strong south westerly (gale) wind. This is Tynemouth near Whitley Bay. It is one of our favourite places as it is only 15 minutes up the road from Newcastle. This is where coast to coast cyclists 'dip' their wheels; where the ferry goes out to Amsterdam; where the Geordies 'in the know' buy and eat their fish and chips !

I hope this photo captures the mood of a windy but in many strange ways captivating day on the pier. You get the perspective and also the isolation sometimes. On other days you can see the odd black seal bobbing up looking at you with a strange curiosity. They have such big black eyes.

A sight that will make all Geordies in far away places homesick !
